Located on Albuquerque’s west side, Boca Negra Canyon is an Albuquerque Open Space which offers some views of large lava flows. The road to the top has been changed into a walking and bike path so the views are reduced but there are still interesting rocks and lava formations. This site is at a low elevation and temperatures are relatively mild in the winter. Park hours are 8 A.M. to 5 P.M.

DIRECTIONS:

The Open Space people tell me that Unser has been moved in the last few years so if you haven't been here in a while the directions are different. 

Boca Negra Canyon is just north of Montano Road on Atrisco Dr. in Albuquerque. 

Go north on Unser,  be sure to watch for the Boca Negra sign, go past Montano, turn right on Atrisco Dr. and then right into the park and up the hill to the upper Boca Negra Canyon.
