This three-day workshop will focus on the unique aspects of capturing the winter landscape. We will examine winter’s influence on light, values, color and atmospheric perspective and will also touch upon design fundamentals such as composition and subject choice. During the first two days in the studio, field studies, photographs and sketches will be used to study and develop pieces that explore winter scenes. Reference materials will be provided but students are encouraged to bring their own as well. Daily demonstrations will be in oil but other media are welcome. Weather permitting, our final day can be spent painting field studies in plein air.
Once you are registered you will receive a supply list and recommendations for dressing for winter plein air. Students must have appropriate winter clothing as well as a portable plein air easel. This class is open to artists of all ability levels. The maximum number of students is 8. Proof of full Covid vaccination and boosters as needed is required.
