This year John Lintott will be one of only 15 painters participating in the Zion National Park Plein Air Invitational. His oil paintings check off all the boxes that make a great painter. He has an impeccable sense of design, dynamic values that help describe the landscape, and a sense of color only obtained by years of Plein Air work. His adherence to his craft over the years, his quality, and his personality have led him to become an associate member of OPA and a member of Plein Air Painters of America (PAPA) in 2022. Southwest Art has listed him as an “Artist to Watch”. John is most proud of his wife Emily and their three daughters who all live in Grand Junction, Co

    Jurors:

Natasha Isenhour, J. Waid Griffin, Spike Ress

    Natasha Isenhour

    http://natashaisenhour.com

Contemporary American Realist Natasha Isenhour expresses her emotional response to unpopulated spaces with an edgy lonesome starkness that defines the very essence of her work in oil and pastel. Isenhour exhibits throughout the southwest and teaches several sold out workshops each year, both Plein Air and studio. Of her many highlights she has received several Honorable Mentions and one Award of Excellence in Oil Painters of America Competitions. She has served as faculty for the Plein Air Convention and Expo (PACE) for two years. And as a Past President of PAPNM, she is loved by many.

    J. Waid Griffin

    https://griffin-art.com

Waid holds a BFA in painting From Texas Tech University and has worked as a graphic artist. He moved to Albuquerque in 1987 and focused on landscape painting in oil, however he is currently returning to watercolor.  He has won many awards over the years which, coupled with his delightful personality, make him a popular instructor at the New Mexico Art League. He has taught art, music history, and theory with Rio Grande Enrichment Studies for many years. Waid was named a “Local Treasure” in 2013, by the Albuquerque Business in Art Association.

Originally from Long Island NY, his great love of the clear light of the American Southwest has led him to reside in Utah. Spike pursued a full time career focusing on painting in watercolor, a medium he still finds challenging and exciting. After gaining national acclaim as a watercolorist he added oil painting to his repertoire. He has traveled extensively with paints and camping gear to find the diverse landscapes that inspire his work. “I find the contrast between the way one must handle the paint and brushes in oil versus watercolor stimulates me to be more creative and expressive in both media. It is my aim to capture the way a scene feels, not just the way it looks.”
