PAPNM Artist Member,John Misner, is participating in the Amarillo (Texas ) Museum of Art Biennial.
Oct 14 - Dec 31
The 2023 AMoA BIENNIAL-600 is the tenth iteration of an ongoing series of juried biennial exhibitions exploring areas of artistic practice, material, and content. Previous biennial exhibitions have focused on materials like clay, glass, and textiles. Other exhibitions have investigated processes such as drawing, printmaking, and architecture. This year, the AMoA staff and Board of Trustees are excited to offer the museum’s exhibition spaces to artists working across all materials and genres.
Anna Walker, the Executive Director of Lawndale Art & Performance Center in Houston, Texas, served as the juror for this biennial exhibition. She has dedicated her professional life to art and artists. Prior to her work at Lawndale she was the Assistant Curator of Decorative Arts, Craft, and Design at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston where she took an expansive view of craft to work across departments and acquire work by contemporary artists. Before joining the MFAH, Anna was the Curator at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft.

From Tobi:
I am excited to support the Oki Language Project through the upcoming Art Auction. My work "Finding a Way Home" is part of this fantastic online-only auction whose goal is to support the preservation of Indigenous languages at risk of extinction while also celebrating artists who use their platform for good.
The auction starts Thursday, October 19th at 9am EST, and will end on Thursday, November 2nd, 2023. Submit your bid for the work of a select group of Indigenous, New Mexican, and Western artists who were invited to participate."

New Highands University: Exhibition from Sept 10 - Oct 31
Jack McGowan, Chamisa and Moonset in Los Alamos Canyon, oil on linen, 12 x 16”
McGowan will be showing one of his newest works, Chamisa and Moonset in Los Alamos Canyon. “For someone who took a 40-year hiatus between paintings, being included in this show, and the 15th Annual Plein Air Painters of New Mexico Juried National Show in the same year, is aspirational,” the artist says, adding that one of the reasons he paints is to bring attention to the environment.
For more information on the show and the artists involved, visit galleries.nmhu.edu (Kennedy Gallery).
The university has exhibits throughout the year.
"New Mexico Highlands University has a long history with the visual arts. Our first president, Dr. Edgar Lee Hewitt, encouraged New Mexico artists to come to Las Vegas by offering them studio space on campus. One of those artists, Sheldon Parsons, gifted Dr. Hewitt with Taos Cattle Hacienca large oil painting that hangs in the President’s office to this day, and was saved by firemen during the 1922 Springer Hall fire.
The Highlands’ campus is graced with a number of WPA projects, from the large “The Evolution of Education” mural by Lloyd Moylan found in Rodgers Hall to a set of eight smaller murals in the lobby of Ilfeld Auditorium, painted in 1938 by Santa Fe artist Brooks Willis.
In the 1950s and 60s the Highlands Art Department experienced a renaissance of creativity under the leadership of legendary Highlands University art professors Elmer Schooley, Ray Drew, Harry Leippe, and Paul Volckening. Their contributions to Highlands and the arts are detailed in A Fine Frenzy, by Elizabeth Orem.
Today the arts tradition at Highlands is going strong. From our foundry’s connection with the world-renowned Iron Tribe to our print making program, the digital arts and modern designs, Highlands students, faculty and staff continue to make a home for the arts in Northern New Mexico."
Congratulations to PAPNM Artists, Gwen Ethelbah and Sally DeLapp, two of only 27 participants in this year's Sedona Arts Festival, Oct 20-28.
"Sedona Arts Center invites you along to be inspired and experience master artists painting in the Shangri-La of the Southwest! Sedona is a sublime and stunningly beautiful environment steeped in art history. Sedona Arts Center dates back 65 years to the founding of Sedona’s identity as an ‘art colony.’ Our community’s iconic and wonderfully creative event—Sedona Plein Air Festival—is a week-long celebration of extraordinary landscapes, world-renowned artists, unique workshops, and wonderful free events.
Plein Air—the act of painting outdoors.
For 19 years, artists from around the country have visited the red rocks of Sedona to capture their magnificence in oils, acrylics, watercolor and pastel. Between October 20-28, you’ll see 27 of the finest painters—each with their own style and perspective—peppered throughout Sedona with their easels, paints and brushes to capture the essence of this magical and beautiful area.
As artists create paintings over the course of the week, they will be framed and displayed for sale in Sedona Arts Center’s Art Barn. We welcome you to visit the Art Barn during business hours from October 20-28, to see the new (and still wet!) paintings being created each day. Below is a list of events that are all open and free to the public. Sedona Arts Center also offers free parking in the lot behind the Art Barn."

Carla’s studio is in the Aliso Art Studio Lofts above Remarque Print Workshop in the Hob Hill’s Mankato Place Addition. The building complex is being repurposed and renovated from a pre-mid-century motor lodge into studio apartments and art spaces with hopeful completion by The Mother Road anniversary celebration.
From Tom:
Please accept this invitation to attend the reception to my solo exhibition titled "A Place Called Morning." The title and concept are inspired from a poem by Emily Dickinson, from which I derive a rich metaphor for our world today. On the more literal side, if you didn't get enough of the summer monsoon this year, you will find consolation in the next best thing — wall-to-wall sky-themed oil paintings. A Place Called Morning — An Exhibition of Oil Paintings by Tom Blazier Show Dates: October 1-15 Artist's reception: October 6, 4 to 7 p.m. Location: Legends of the West Fine Art Gallery, 102 East Water Street, Santa Fe, NM 87501 For more information, contact tblazier@hotmail.com, or visit the websites for Legends of the West Fine Art and Tom Blazier. Note: Be sure to mark your calendar to attend the October 6 reception. It is suggested that you RSVP. I look forward to seeing you at the reception! Thank you. Tom Blazier
