    on Facebook @PhyllisAGunderson

Phyllis enjoyed painting as a young child and was encouraged by her parents to pursue her passion. A self directed continuous learner , she continued to paint throughout high school and college, Phyllis put down her brushes and put aside her art for several decades while she concentrated on building her career and raising her children. Phyllis’s varied career led her from law enforcement to the aerospace industry and high tech. While working as an Executive Coach in England, she also took on the role of Chief Information Officer. Once she arrived back in the U.S., Phyllis decided to return full time to her first love: painting and translating the beauty of what is to a new beauty.

Today, as Owner of Humming Wolf Studio, Phyllis specializes in two-dimensional oil paintings that, are representational of nature reflecting the spirit of the land and animals. She exhibits in art shows in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas and Washington.

Phyllis is an active member of the National Association of Pen Women, Inc., National Association of Professional Women, National Association of Independent Artists, Plein Air Painters of New Mexico (as the President) and Oil Painters of America.

Phyllis recently won an Honorable Mention at the Lake Granbury  Art Association Fall Show.

Watercolor 5 x 2.5 Incoming by Natasha Isenhour was awarded Outstanding Watercolor in the

July 2022 BoldBrush Art Contest & Exhibit.

    From Bold Brush:

    Biography

American Realist Natasha Isenhour, conveys her emotional response to landscape, architecture and still-life in oil, pastel and watercolor. From a distance a first impression is the realistic feeling of the work, but a closer look reveals a contemporary edge where her mark-making controls the impressions of mass and delicacy. She depicts what she sees as unpopulated spaces with an edgy lonesome starkness that defines the very essence of her work. Even her still life conveys this message.

"It's all about exploration of emotional response” to place the viewer in a feeling of being alone with their reaction to the piece. I'm seeking to move the viewer into a place to breathe and contemplate. Its intent isn't to convey sadness, rather, it's about opening to authenticity and the bare essence that is at our core when we remove all the pretense."

Painting in plein air informs her studio work through the on-site study of value and color temperature. Observation and a BA in Geology afford her a deep understanding of the landforms and the bones of the earth that allow her to so effectively convey the depth and mass of her subjects.

Isenhour is currently preparing for two solo exhibitions scheduled for Fall 2022, the Taos Art Museum at Fechin House, The Beautiful Lonesome, Oct 25th-Dec 4th and Ventana Fine Art in Santa Fe, Essentially Isenhour, opening Friday Dec 2nd. In 2023 she will participate in her 3rd year at the Borrego Springs Plein Air Invitational in California where she was honored with People's Choice and a sellout in 2022. In addition to serving on faculty for the 2022 Plein Air Convention and Expo, Isenhour teaches regularly at the historic Ghost Ranch in northern New Mexico where she spends one month a year on the ranch in residency.
