It began with a unique vision, that of combining the talents and experiences of existing fine arts organizations, each representing artists throughout New Mexico, to sponsor a show of New Mexico’s finest art.
MasterWorks of New Mexico consists of four separately juried and judged shows. It is a collaborative effort by Bardean LLC, New Mexico Watercolor Society, Pastel Society of New Mexico and the Rio Grande Art Association exhibiting together as MasterWorks of New Mexico to create a showcase highlighting the excellence of visual art in New Mexico.
*Please let karen.halbert@gmail.com know if you have been juried into the show. Otherwise, the full list of juried PAPNM Artists will be added when the painting images are put online on the Masterworks website (right after the opening on the 22nd).
Join us for another video chat, this time with PAPNM member and 2019 President, Natasha Isenhour.

Artist Cynthia Inson with her paintings
How do you describe success? Cynthia Inson: I describe and realize success as an artist to be related directly to me setting goals, reaching those goals, setting new ones, and continually feeling maybe not comfort but encouragement to grow as an artist. For example, a goal was to create a website, done, another was to start doing ads in Plein Air magazine. Done. Another is to be juried into National Shows and be recognized in a National Arts Magazine. Goals will, of course be different for each artist, but these are some of mine.
What is the best thing about being an artist? Cynthia Inson: The very best thing about being an artist is the continual critical self-analysis of my work, that in turn, if I am paying attention, pushes me to improve my work. Visually it is so very exciting when I step back and see a breakthrough! I love analyzing the abstractions of forms, light, and color.

Join us for another Bluebird Chat with Beth Cooper of the Bluebird Studios. Bask in the sunshine with Michele as she is taped from Florida for this interview on her upcoming workhop in April.
Michele is an impressionistic oil painter using the palette knife and the brush. In this workshop, she will show you how to loosen up and add figures to your paintings in a natural way. We will be working with live models for one afternoon. Michele will take your work to a new level with her innovative approach to painting! This workshop is appropriate for advanced beginners to experienced painters. You won’t be disappointed.

Michael Chesley Johnson, PAPNM Artist Signature Member, is a Mastrius Master Artist. He will be doing a (free) demo on Zoom.
Mark your calendars! On February 29th, Thursday, at 5 pm Mountain Time, I’ll be live on Zoom and interviewed by Mastrius, the group that I am now mentoring for. You can join me for FREE at this link at that time:
https://mastrius.zoom.us/j/87431353402?pwd=eFdQK3VMLzZ0NUgrWFg1YkQ2cWVudz09
(4 PT / 5 MT / 6 CT / 7 ET)
The program will last an hour, and I’ll be talking about what I do, why I do it and how I do it. Then, I’ll give a short demonstration of a painting technique that I call “making your best guess.” Are you a painter and frustrated with that first step in making color choices? In this technique, I show you how making an exact choice doesn’t matter! Just make your best guess, and take comfort in the knowledge that you can adjust that choice in the next phase. The demonstration will be in pastel.
Also, the program is an introduction to me as a Master Artist and mentor for Mastrius. Starting March 10th, I’ll begin mentoring up to 10 aspiring artists. If you’re looking for guidance, consider this online group mentoring program. You can find out more details about my program here.
From Peggy: "Many thanks to Kelly Kane and PleinAir Magazine for the special feature in the February/March 2024 issue about Nancy Silvia Murata, Ned Mueller, and me, all self described unstoppable octogenarians. Much appreciated! I can’t wait to read what Kelly will write about us when we all reach centenarian status. Until then I plan to paint large, live well and dance on."
Congratulations, Nancy and Peggy, PAPNM Members (and Ned as well).
