Capture Taos’s legendary light during four days of plein air painting this summer.  Traveling from Peggy's studio you’ll paint at some of her favorite sites in a small class with plenty of individual attention and personally tailored instruction. This is an oil painting workshop and all levels of painters are welcome.

The goal of this four-day plein air workshop is to help you develop a process for producing successful landscape paintings en plein air so that you can quickly capture your own vision on canvas. Each day we focus on one of the major skills needed for landscape painting and cover methods to adapt to the plein air environment. We’ll address composition, shapes, values, color, edges, brushwork, subject selection and atmospheric perspective. Daily demonstrations and lectures with accompanying handouts will be followed by painting and one on one critiques in the field where you will be able to practice these principles.

ARTISAN ART SUPPLY WEDNESDAY MORNING CLASSES:   Classes are in full swing.  Demonstrating  the four mediums of watermedia, pastel, oil and waterbased oils, Participants can paint in any medium and get help at the easel. ARTISAN DRAWING WORKSHOP:  I will be teaching a three hour hands-on workshop in the basics of drawing.  Many of us missed the discipline of line, values, shapes and textures.  These BASICS were overlooked or dismissed as no longer needed.  In my experience of art making, I find the stronger the drawing is the better the result.  Even with abstract work, decisive mark making is essential.  https://www.calendar.artisansantafe.com/

SHOW AT ELDORADO LIBRARY:  I have my work at the public library for the month of August.  

ALAMOGORDO 3 DAY PLEIN AIR WORKSHOP  OCTOBER 12,13 & 14, 2023.  This is a wonderful opportunity to paint White Sands, and desert and mountains in one location. See the attached flyer, for my upcoming July Workshop at The New Mexico Art League!  Tuesday-Friday, 10am-4pm, July 25-28.  We will produce several small paintings per day, painting "Alla Prima,", Italian for "all at once!"  We will produce fresh, direct paintings from interesting objects that will loosen you up for all of your painting endeavors.

HERE IS A DEMO PAINTING I did in a student mentoring session recently. If you are interested in improving your sky painting, I am offering a second "Clouds and Sky In the Landscape" painting class beginning July 7 (the first class filled quickly so I decided to offer a second one).

The class meets from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fridays, July 7 - August 25 in my Albuquerque studio. The cost is $350.

The summer monsoon is a perfect time to paint the sky in New Mexico. This 8-week oil painting class will introduce students to the relationship between the sky and ground and explore ways to impart luminosity in skies, strengthen compositions through effective placement of cloud shapes, and enhance mood with creative use of color. Some observational time will be spent outside. Sessions will meet in my Albuquerque studio in the northeast heights, and class size is limited to six so each student receives adequate attention. It is advised that students who take this class have a grasp of art fundamentals and some experience working with oils.
